Gatwick Airport at Christmas: Taxi Booking Tips for the Busiest Days

Gatwick’s Christmas and New Year period is one of the busiest stretches of the year for airport transport — and it’s also when things most commonly go wrong for travellers who leave booking until the last minute.

Why Christmas week is different

Three things stack up at once over the festive period: flight schedules run tighter with more early departures and late arrivals, roads carry extra traffic from people visiting family as well as flying, and every taxi and transfer company in the area is fielding a higher volume of bookings than usual. None of that is unique to us — but it’s exactly the combination that causes surge pricing and no-show drivers with less reliable operators.

We run a fixed-price model with no surge pricing, including over Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year — the price we confirm at booking is the price you pay, whatever the date.

Book earlier than you would the rest of the year

Outside of peak season, booking a few days ahead is usually enough. Over Christmas week specifically, we’d recommend booking as early as you have firm travel dates — ideally a couple of weeks out for the popular early-morning and late-evening slots either side of the 24th and 27th, which fill first.

What to double-check when you book

  • Flight number, not just a time. Christmas schedules see more knock-on delays than usual, so accurate flight tracking matters more this week than most.
  • Return date, if you’re booking both legs. If you know your return flight already, book it at the same time rather than coming back to it — it locks in your price and your slot together.
  • Luggage volume. Festive travel usually means more bags than a normal trip — presents, extra layers for winter. If in doubt, tell us and we’ll recommend the right vehicle size rather than you finding out at the kerb that a saloon won’t fit everything.

We run every day, including Christmas Day

Unlike some operators who scale back or close entirely over the holidays, we run 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Bank Holidays, at no extra premium. If your flight lands on Christmas Day itself, that’s a normal booking for us, not a special favour.
